A Parisian Food Diary

As an international city, Paris has an amazing selection of food choices- beyond just French food! Here’s a short list of all the food that I tried in my 3 days that I was there.

Soul Kitchen ★★½
I loved the ambience of this place. It has huge windows, and served a variety of healthy food (that I change every day) and vegan desserts. The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was refreshing and delicious. However, the lunch offering for that day was a bit too healthy for my liking.

Nanashi ★★★★
Nanashi offers Japanese fusion food with a healthy twist. They serve different meat, seafood, and veggie bento box specials every day. We got the tilapia katsu and the pork with mango salsa (served hot!) with a variety of salad assortment on the side. Both were delicious and very affordable at 14€ per box.

L’Ilot ★★★★
If you’re craving seafood, L’Ilot is a restaurant that hits the spot. My favorite was the huge half pieces of crab (we also ordered another one, not pictured) paired with the rosé that we got. The meal was also pretty affordable- it ended up being 25€ per person.

Chez Janou ★★★
This is a very traditional but fancy French bistro. Bistro food tends to be a bit heavier and more cramped inside, and this was no exception. We ordered the avocado salad to start (we did not know it was only avocados) and the duck breast for the main. The duck was seared on the outside, tender on the inside and was paired with roasted potatoes and mushrooms. I would definitely reorder the duck. Overall, this was on the pricier side and was 30€ per person.

Gontran Cherrier ★★
We savored our pastries on our rooftop in Paris with some cantaloupe (“French melon” as the French people tell me). We got the matcha scone and a croissant. The matcha scone was very bread-y and thick, and the croissant likewise was dense and lacked the layers that I usually crave for in a buttery croissant.

Fondation Cafe ★★★½
Small cafe located in the Marais, this is a great spot to relax in between shopping. I got a cappuccino and the boy got an espresso shot. We paired that with a pistachio cake. The cake was lackluster- nothing special- but the coffee was fine.

Le Peloton Cafe ★★★★
Another small but cozy cafe in the Marais, this one is closer to the river. We stopped by here on a hot afternoon, so I got an iced latte and ate it with the portugese egg tart that I got at Comme à Lisbonne a few blocks away. As a side note, the baristas here speak English which make it really easy to converse. It’s called bicycle cafe because if you get a drink and a pastry, you can rent a bike for 10€ a day!

Please let me know what you’ve tried in Paris and if there’s anything I should try there next time I visit!
