I’m so happy that my first trip of 2019 was to Cabo, MX. Just 3 hours away from San Francisco, it was seriously the perfect warm weather getaway. I went with one of my good friends, Kelly from @asideofsweet, and had an epic girl’s trip to Mexico. While we only had a weekend here, we could have definitely stayed a lot longer! In this blog post, I’ll share my favorites from this trip, that you can’t miss if you’re in Cabo.
Where to Stay
There are two “Cabo” siblings in Los Cabos, MX:
Cabo San Lucas is the more touristy party hotspot downtown destination.
San Jose Del Cabo is more posh and where most of the resorts are.
We opted for somewhere in the middle, which made it convenient for whether we wanted to go to Cabo San Lucas or San Jose Del Cabo. Uber just launched in Cabo so we tried to use it when we could, but if not, taxis were always around if we wanted to explore.
Grand Velas Cabo
We stayed at Grand Velas Cabo for our entire vacation and let me tell you… this place is the ultimate luxurious vacation getaway! It also has “Grand” for a reason. It has over 1000 suites, 5 infinity pools, and 5 restaurants to choose from. While I’ve never stayed in an all-inclusive resort before, I’d say it’s somewhat similar to a cruise (if you’ve done that before). There are activities throughout the day that you can choose from, delicious food that’s always at arm’s reach (seriously the food here is EVEN better than on a cruise though), and a kid’s room (perfect for families!).
Sunset Yacht
We spent an evening out with Los Cabos Adventures on their Sunset Yacht Sail. The Sunset cruise is one of the best ways to enjoy the Cabo coastline. Partnered with some champagne, cheese and light refreshments, this was definitely a classy cruise. Each boat can fit around 20 or so. It’s also adults-only, which makes it perfect for couples, honeymooners, or BFFS like me and Kelly.
Beach Picnic
Let’s start off by saying I have a small love for picnics (see here, here).
I mean who doesn’t?! Kelly and I wanted to do a beachy boho style picnic in Cabo, and we were blown away by the results. We set this up on the beach of our resort at Grand Velas and got to work with Lola Del Campo, one of the most wonderful and talented people ever. She is the owner of Florenta Creative Florals and helped us set everything up here. We enjoyed small desserts and sweets while sipping on mimosas by the beach.
If you’re interested in doing something like this while you’re in Cabo, definitely reach out to Lola!
Hiking to Divorce Beach
Another highlight of our trip was Hiking to Divorce Beach. There’s actually 2 beaches here- lover’s beach is on the left and is where the waters are much calmer and safer to swim in. Divorce Beach on the other hand is extremely rocky and no swimming is allowed there.
The hike starts in the marine base of San Jose del Cabo. It’s on private property, but no worries – there are 2 guided tours every day in the morning and afternoon. It takes around 45 minutes to get to the viewpoint at the top, and another 45 min to get to divorce beach on the bottom. From divorce beach you can take a water cab (~ $10 per person) back to San Jose Del Cabo (so that way you don’t have to hike back up the slippery rocks).
Things to note: the hike is challenging. It’s not well-paved hiking pass, and very rocky. Definitely wear closed toed shoes, but bring sandals if you want to spend time in the beach afterwards!
More hike information here.
Horseback Riding
I’ve never gone horse back riding on the beach so this was something I was super excited about. I’ve always loved horses and my pony here was so gentle.
Everyday at around 11AM at the Grand Velas beach, there is a guy who will come by with his horses. This is by no means organized by the hotel. If you choose to do a 30 minute tour it’s around $65.
Are you planning on visiting Cabo, MX? Let me know what you think if you’ve been before. Hope you enjoyed this travel post!
