Thanksgiving in Los Angeles

Instead of spending Thanksgiving in San Francisco, we decided to take a spin on Airbnb and choose somewhere in California (really anywhere) for a relaxing getaway. We ended up choosing the coziest Airbnb in Malibu, hidden away in the mountains. We stayed in Malibu for 2 days, and also spent a day in DTLA.

DAY 1

Before heading off to our Airbnb, we stopped by Venice. It was 90 degrees that day, which made it a great day to also go to the beach. By late afternoon, we left for Malibu and spent the evening at our Airbnb. We enjoyed sitting around the fire pits, relaxing in the jacuzzi and watching the sunset.

DAY 2

The following day, we set off to explore Malibu beaches in the morning. The BF found an amazing beach that only locals knew about. When we got there, there was only one other person there!

In the afternoon, we went to the Malibu Wine Safari for wine tasting and exotic animals. When booking, there are two choices that you can choose from: hiking, safari vehicle. We chose the hiking route so that we could see the estate where the ATV couldn’t go. Plus, it ended up being a good way to exercise off our Thanksgiving meal. The hike was around 2 miles, looping around the estate. It lasted for around 3 hours with plenty of stops throughout. Half an hour into the hike, we stopped for wine tasting. During the remainder of the hike, everyone was feeling good. By the end, we got to see the sunset making for some really picturesque photos.

DAY 3

In the morning, we checked out of our tiny house and headed to LA. First, we stopped by the Getty Villa. We’ve been to the Getty Museum and loved the architecture there. The Getty Villa is free, but requires tickets ahead of time. The villa was beautiful, but a lot smaller than the Museum.

We spent our afternoon in various parts of downtown LA. I highly recommend checking out The Last Bookstore for an artsy bookstore, the Broad for contemporary art, and GiorgiPorgi for a cool speak-easy coffee experience.

DAY 4

Before heading off to the airport, we grabbed some wholesome food at the Great White by Venice (this is what I think of as LA “basic”). Also, if you pay over $40 for a meal, it deserves an insta right?

This year, I’m thankful for the many amazing experiences I’ve had over 2017. Thankful for my job that pays me well and allows me to travel. For my friends and family who are always 110% supportive of everything I do. And to the BF who’s been with me through all of my great and also not so great moments.

What are you thankful for? I can’t believe it’s the last month of 2017 already!
