After over 4 years of living in San Francisco, I’m ready to dish out 10 of my favorite (and most iconic) spots to take Instagram photos that will cover almost every neighborhood in the city! San Francisco is not too big of a city, but it has so much spunk and character that I’m always finding new places that inspire me. So without further ado, let’s up level our Instagram game.
1. Golden Gate Bridge
First up, one of the most iconic bridges all around the world, and arguably the mascot of San Francisco.
My Tip: I recommend shooting in the afternoon or evening, when the fog clears. The mornings typically tend to be very foggy and can cover up the bridge almost completely (unless you want that effect!)
Notable Locations
- Baker Beach
- Battery West
- Battery Spencer
- Fort Point National Historic Site
- Kirby Cove
2. Bernal Heights Park
This is one of my favorite parks in San Francisco because of the very famous swing!
My Tip: I love coming for sunrise or sunset for the most spectacular views.
3. Flower Houses
Bougainvillea is all around San Francisco, and especially on the houses. They’re pretty much around all year round, but it’s best to catch them in spring and summer.
Notable Locations:
- Lombard Street
- Union & Lyon Street
4. Ina Coolbrith Park
One of my favorite hidden gems in San Francisco. This is located right on the top of Nob Hill which makes it the perfect viewpoint, but also extremely hard to find parking.
My Tip: Come during sunrise for the best view of the golden rays hitting San Francisco.

5. Aquarium by the Bay
Not the largest aquarium in the bay but definitely noteworthy for the underwater Aquarium Tunnel.
My Tip: Come in the evenings where there will be less kids and families. It’ll also be extremely low light for photographs, so definitely bring a DSLR that can help you with editing the photos later.
6. Leo’s Oyster Bar
Come here for the wallpaper decor, and stay for the drinks and food.
My Tip: As with really any restaurant in San Francisco, it can get really crowded in the evenings and on the weekend. To get the pretty walls all to yourself, come mid-day on a weekday and it will definitely be all yours!
7. Rooftop Bars
There aren’t too many high buildings in the bay area because of the risk of earth quakes. That being said, there are a few rooftop bars that I’d recommend checking out for an amazing sunset view.
Notable Locations
- Loews Regency Hyatt
- Charmaine Hotel
8. Cafe Reveille (Mission Bay)
One of the trendiest spots for a good ole girl’s catch up. I love the bar stools and their signature pink tables.
Warning: There is another Cafe Reveille in Financial District, and it does not have the same decor as this one. Definitely go to the Mission Bay location!
9. Succulence
One of my favorite succulent stores in SF. In the back, is their famous “U SEXY” sign, made completely with succulents!
Fun Tip: They also offer classes where you can learn how to do vertical gardening!
10. General Store
The General Store sells local ceramics, throws, clothes and in the back they have a small Green House. This is a little slice of heaven in the Sunset.
Did I miss any of your favorite spots in San Francisco? And please let me know if you end up going to any of these places!
