The color factory is a popup art exhibition that celebrates color. It’s an instagrammers dream come true, from the rainbow staircases, to the lemon yellow ballpit, that have quickly gone viral over the internet. Between the Museum of Ice Cream and Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room in LA, I was excited to see San Francisco getting some creative love.
The factory itself spans two stories, and there’s no time limit for how long you can spend inside. After checking in, you’re immediately welcomed with food: confetti cookies from Doughbies, and charcoal lemonade from Pressed Juicery. Side note: why can’t all museums feed me?
Satiated, you’ll experience different textures in each of the colored rooms. Orange tictacs, orange gumball machines, orange hand-clappers and other toys, fly swatters, were all hung flat on a wall. The green room featured a huge green crayon used to color in the wall (or sign your signature). The bright yellow ballpit, but really a 5 foot deep swimming pool governed with similar rules, and rule-breaking adults diving into the deep end.
The day ends with small ice cream cone from the garden creamery, some postcards as mementos. I left feeling like I re-visited the best parts of my childhood. While tickets are sold out, keep your eyes peeled on their website for updates.
